Contrasts Under a Full Moon

What joy to stand on top of a mountain and look straight into the face of the moon! On Thursday night, Craig and I went to bed early and planned to get up in the middle of the night and do just that very thing. Craig had performed a Full Moon ceremony a few months earlier. He found it an effective way to release negative forces within his life and to connect more deeply with the nurturing power of the moon.
We fell asleep hopeful, but realistic. There were clouds covering the sky and a 70% chance of rain over the Blue Ridge Mountains. At 1:00 am we stood on the rain drenched grass looking up at the clouds with the lists of what we wanted to release in our hands.
To most, the situation would not have looked promising. But, what happened next was nothing short of miraculous. We expressed our gratitude to the moon and watched the clouds gracefully dance across the sky. Slowly the clouds began to part just enough to allow the teasing glow of the moon. As the clouds opened wider, we were able to see the glorious full moon. It felt close enough to touch. I had never in my life seen it look so breathtakingly beautiful. It was if we were the audience to a performance perfectly choreographed by the universe. And, we had front row seats. Spectacular!
At that moment, I was reminded of how small my thoughts can be. Had I been in charge of the evening, the moon would have been in perfect view the entire night. But, I would have missed that dramatic moment of sheer joy when the clouds parted and revealed the moon beyond my thoughts…a moon not limited by my human understanding…a moon made brighter because of the contrast.
Thank you, grand Universe, for giving me a peek beyond my small understanding!
